Albion Strategic Consulting

Tim Hale
Managing Director

Tim loves investing and working with clients. He is passionate about the social utility that good investing delivers. Key aims are to simplify investing and build belief. He can’t think of anything better than a good piece of investment research! He wrote Smarter Investing after seeing the mistakes made by investors, both institutional and private clients, when working for what is now JP Morgan Asset Management.

Tim lives in Devon and loves his three girls, and rugby (Exeter Chiefs), obviously in that order!

Ben Edwards, CFA
Investment Analyst

Ben has been with Albion since 2015. He enjoys visiting and working with Albion's fantastic client firms, as well as knuckling down with some investment research in the (rather funky!) Exeter office.

Outside of the office, Ben is a keen snowboarder, footballer and tennis player and enjoys travelling the world.

James Baker
Investment Analyst

James joined as an Investment Analyst in 2017 after completing his degree in Management. He finds the systematic approach to investment both simple and elegant and enjoys tackling new concepts and challenges within the industry, usually armed with a macro or two.

James is a huge Arsenal supporter and more recently a converted fan of the Exeter Chiefs. He will often be spotted at Exeter Golf and Country Club, though rarely on the fairways!

Dan Tutchings
Investment Analyst

Dan joined Albion in 2020 after teaching maths for a year, following his teacher training. He loves research and his time spent as an adviser in a leading financial planning firm will be invaluable to his work here. Like James and Ben he enjoys his 5-aside football and is an avid supporter of the Exeter Chiefs.

He is currently parenting a new golden Labrador puppy.

Albion was born in 2001 and initially focused on working with private banks and family offices in the US. In 2006, it began consulting to leading financial planning companies in the UK, many of which have grown into robust, successful and respected firms with strong regional brands. In that same year, Smarter Investing was published and is now in its third edition. Our systematic approach to investing was tested in the Credit Crisis of 2008-9 and survived with honours. Our approach has also been shown to be robust in the more positive markets since, capturing the bulk of returns offered by the markets.  Theory, evidence, logic and patience are the key ingredients to investing success.

As a team, we work hard and try to go ‘the extra mile’. We genuinely enjoy working with the clients that we have. We fully understand the obligations on our shoulders to do a good job, as the decisions our clients make have very real impacts on the lives of their clients and their families.

We try to have fun and play hard too!
